Parents felt it important to arrange for a private comprehensive neuropsychology assessment for their 14 year old son who had a diagnosis of Neurofibromatosis type 1 and ADHD as they had been waiting for three years on the NHS for a cognitive assessment only.
Please note: some details have been changed to protect identity.
Parents understood that there was a greater likelihood of not only ADHD but also other developmental difficulties/conditions such as, learning disability, specific learning difficulties and motor challenges.
The assessment concluded the pattern of strengths and challenges was highly suggestive of Developmental Co-ordination Disorder and a report was sent to the young person’s paediatrician to confirm the diagnosis.
A range of exam arrangements and supports were secured to help the young person to demonstrate his ability despite his challenges.
The different aspects of the assessment included:
- Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC-V)
- Wechsler Individual Attainment Test (WIAT-III)
- Beery Visual Motor Integration Test (including supplemental tests)
- Rey Complex Figure Test (visual spatial thinking and visual spatial memory)
- Screening Tools including the Developmental Co-ordination Disorder Questionnaire
- Vineland Adaptive Behaviour Scales
